Incheon Airport to Myeongdong: AREX, Bus or Taxi? (2026)
Myeongdong is one of the most common first hotel choices in Seoul, and getting from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong is a slightly different question from simply getting to Seoul.
If you’re short on time, here’s the short version: traveling light and want to save money? Take AREX and make one subway transfer. Prefer to skip that transfer with luggage in tow? Airport Limousine Bus 6015 stops at several locations around Myeongdong. Traveling as a group, arriving very late, or carrying more than you want to manage on stairs? A taxi is usually worth considering.
There’s one more thing that matters more than most guides mention: “Myeongdong” covers more ground than many first-time visitors expect. Whether your hotel is near Myeongdong Station or closer to Euljiro 1-ga can change which option makes the most sense.
Quick Answer: What’s the Best Way to Get to Myeongdong?
| Your situation | Best option |
|---|---|
| Cheapest | AREX All-Stop + Subway |
| Fastest train option | AREX Express + Subway |
| Fewest transfers | Airport Bus 6015 |
| Large luggage | 6015 or Taxi |
| 3–4 travelers | Compare a taxi with the combined bus fare |
| Hotel near Myeongdong Station | 6015 or AREX + Line 4 |
| Hotel near Euljiro 1-ga | Check the nearest 6015 stop first |
| Late-night arrival | N6701 if the timing works, otherwise Taxi |
Option 1: AREX to Myeongdong
AREX does not take you directly to Myeongdong.
Whether you take the Express Train or the All-Stop Train, the simplest route for most first-time visitors is:
Incheon Airport → Seoul Station → Subway Line 4 → Myeongdong Station
Myeongdong is only one stop from Seoul Station on Line 4, but remember that the advertised AREX travel time only gets you to Seoul Station. You still need to walk through the station, transfer to Line 4, ride one stop and then walk from Myeongdong Station to your hotel.
AREX Express Train
The AREX Express runs nonstop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station.
- Terminal 1 → Seoul Station: about 43 minutes
- Terminal 2 → Seoul Station: about 51 minutes
- Stops: nonstop to Seoul Station
- After Seoul Station: transfer to Subway Line 4 for Myeongdong
The Express can make sense if you want the quickest train ride to Seoul Station and don’t mind making a subway transfer afterward. It’s not automatically the fastest door-to-door option, though — the transfer inside Seoul Station takes real time, especially with a large suitcase.
The Express uses a separate ticket and fare system from the All-Stop Train. Fares can vary depending on how and where you book, so check the current official AREX information before purchasing.

AREX All-Stop Train
The AREX All-Stop Train takes longer because it stops at stations along the route, but it is much cheaper and works as part of the Seoul metropolitan transit system.
- Terminal 1 → Seoul Station: about 59 minutes
- Terminal 2 → Seoul Station: about 66 minutes
- T-money: accepted
- Transfer discounts: available when applicable
For budget-conscious travelers, the All-Stop Train is often the better value. The extra train time is relatively small compared with the total airport-to-hotel journey, especially once the Seoul Station transfer is included.
KOREA REALITY CHECK
You cannot use T-money to board the AREX Express Train.
The All-Stop Train accepts T-money as part of the metropolitan transit system, but the AREX Express uses a separate ticket and fare system. If another guide tells you to simply tap your T-money card for the Express Train, that information is incorrect.
If you plan to use the All-Stop Train or Seoul public transportation after arriving, see our complete T-money guide for tourists.
For a broader comparison of AREX, airport buses and taxis to other parts of Seoul, see our Incheon Airport to Seoul transportation guide.
Option 2: Airport Limousine Bus 6015
For many travelers heading to Myeongdong, Bus 6015 ends up being the easier choice — not necessarily because it’s faster, but because it skips the transfer altogether.
Why 6015 Can Be Easier Than AREX
- No transfer at Seoul Station
- No hauling a large suitcase through subway stairs or corridors
- Stops at several points around Myeongdong, not just one station
- Depending on your hotel, one of the other stops may actually be closer than Myeongdong Station itself
The tradeoff is traffic. AREX runs on a dedicated rail line, so it isn’t affected by road conditions. 6015 is a road-based airport bus, so travel time can vary with Seoul traffic.
6015 Stops Around Myeongdong
This is where 6015 has an advantage most guides don’t mention: it doesn’t just have one “Myeongdong” stop.
| Stop | Useful for |
|---|---|
| Myeongdong Station | Central and southern Myeongdong |
| Euljiro 1-ga / Royal Hotel area | Northern Myeongdong / Euljiro side |
| Lotte Hotel / ibis Myeongdong area | Lotte Department Store area |
| Euljiro 2-ga | Northeast side |
| Chungmuro Station | Eastern / southeastern Myeongdong |
| Hoehyeon Station / Namdaemun Market | Western edge of the wider Myeongdong area |
Before you board, check your hotel’s address against the route rather than assuming “Myeongdong Station” is automatically your stop. A hotel on the Euljiro side can genuinely be closer to a different stop.

6015 Fare and Boarding
- Adult: ₩17,000
- Child: ₩12,000
How you board depends on which terminal you’re leaving from, and this changed in 2026:
- Terminal 2: as of March 5, 2026, passengers taking Route 6015 to Seoul must purchase a ticket in advance at a staffed counter or ticket machine before boarding.
- Terminal 1: Route 6015 still operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with cash, transportation cards such as T-money, and pre-purchased tickets accepted. Very close to departure, however, on-site payment may depend on whether a seat is still available.
If your flight lands at T2, buy your ticket after clearing arrivals rather than going straight to the bus stop.

What About the Last 6015 Bus?
The last airport-to-Myeongdong departures are generally around 11 p.m., with the exact time depending on the terminal and current schedule. If your flight lands late, check the live timetable before planning around this bus. If you miss it, compare the night bus and taxi options below.
Myeongdong Station vs Euljiro 1-ga: Check Your Hotel First
One of the easiest mistakes to make is assuming that every hotel described as being “in Myeongdong” is best reached through Myeongdong Station.
Myeongdong is an area, not a single point. Hotels on the southern side of the neighborhood may be more convenient from Myeongdong Station, while hotels closer to the northern side can be easier to reach from Euljiro 1-ga or another nearby 6015 stop.
If Your Hotel Is Near Myeongdong Station
Myeongdong Station is on Subway Line 4, one stop from Seoul Station.
That makes the usual AREX route fairly straightforward:
Incheon Airport → Seoul Station → Line 4 → Myeongdong Station
Airport Bus 6015 also stops at Myeongdong Station, so it can be particularly convenient if you have large luggage and want to avoid transferring inside Seoul Station.
If Your Hotel Is Near Euljiro 1-ga
If your hotel is closer to Euljiro 1-ga, Lotte Hotel Seoul, or the northern side of Myeongdong, going all the way to Myeongdong Station may not be the most convenient choice.
Bus 6015 serves multiple stops around this side of the neighborhood, including stops near Lotte Hotel / ibis Myeongdong and the Euljiro side of Myeongdong. That means the airport bus can sometimes drop you closer to your hotel than an AREX journey ending at Myeongdong Station.
ACTUALLY
Don’t choose your route based only on the word “Myeongdong” in your hotel listing.
Check the hotel’s exact location first. Myeongdong Station, Euljiro 1-ga and the other 6015 stops serve different parts of the neighborhood, and the closest stop can save you an unnecessary walk with luggage.
If you haven’t chosen your hotel yet, our Where to Stay in Seoul guide compares Myeongdong with Hongdae, Jongno, Seoul Station and Gangnam.
Option 3: Taxi from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong
A taxi is the simplest option if you want door-to-door travel without transfers, especially late at night or with a group.
- Door-to-door: no walking through stations, no transfers, and no need to work out which bus stop is closest to your hotel
- Heavy luggage: much easier than carrying large bags through a subway transfer
- 3–4 travelers: splitting one taxi fare can make the extra convenience more reasonable than it first appears
- Late arrival: taxis are not tied to AREX or airport bus schedules
A taxi from Incheon Airport may also include expressway tolls in addition to the metered fare. The vehicle type you choose — regular, International Taxi, Jumbo taxi, or another larger vehicle — also affects both the price and the amount of luggage space available.

Arriving Late at Night?
If your flight lands after the last 6015 and the remaining AREX schedule doesn’t work for you, you still have night-bus and taxi options — but the night bus isn’t automatically the better choice.
N6701 Night Bus
N6701 runs overnight between Incheon Airport and central Seoul. The key details are:
- Fare: Adult ₩18,000 / Child ₩12,000
- Frequency: roughly every 115–130 minutes, so missing one can mean a long wait
- Route: Incheon Airport → Seoul Station → Euljiro 1-ga (Lotte Hotel Seoul) → Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP)
KOREA REALITY CHECK
N6701 does not stop at Myeongdong Station.
It stops at Euljiro 1-ga near Lotte Hotel Seoul, which can work well for hotels on the northern side of Myeongdong. If your hotel is closer to Myeongdong Station, you’ll still have additional walking or onward travel after getting off the bus.
Check the current official N6701 timetable
When a Taxi Makes More Sense
N6701’s long gaps between departures mean it isn’t always the practical choice, even when the route is technically available. A taxi is usually worth considering when:
- The next N6701 is more than an hour away
- Your hotel is closer to Myeongdong Station than the Euljiro side served by N6701
- You’re traveling with two or more people and several bags
- You’d rather avoid another walk or short taxi ride after getting off the night bus
Door-to-Door: Which Is Actually Faster?
AREX’s advertised travel time only covers the train ride itself — and that’s where most comparisons stop. In practice, the number that matters is how long it takes to actually reach your hotel, not just Seoul Station.
Here’s what the official AREX time doesn’t include:
- Walking from arrivals to the AREX platform
- Waiting for the train
- Getting off at Seoul Station and walking to the Line 4 transfer
- Waiting for and riding the subway one stop
- Walking from Myeongdong Station to your hotel
None of these steps take long individually, but they add up — especially with luggage. A “43-minute” Express ride can easily become well over an hour by the time you’re actually at your hotel door.
6015 works differently. There’s no transfer, but it runs in regular Seoul traffic, so its travel time is less predictable — a quiet afternoon and a congested evening can look very different.
A taxi sits in the same traffic as the bus, but skips the walk to a bus stop or subway station entirely, which matters more the heavier your luggage is.
The practical takeaway: official travel time and actual door-to-door time are not the same thing. Factor in your own walking pace, luggage, and transfer tolerance — not just the number printed on a timetable.
Which Option Should You Choose?
Solo traveler + light luggage + lowest cost
→ Take the AREX All-Stop Train and transfer to Line 4 at Seoul Station.
Want the fastest train ride to Seoul Station
→ Take the AREX Express, then transfer to Line 4.
First visit + large suitcase + want fewer transfers
→ Airport Bus 6015 is usually the easiest choice.
Hotel near Euljiro 1-ga or Lotte Hotel Seoul
→ Check the nearest 6015 stop before defaulting to Myeongdong Station.
3–4 travelers with luggage
→ Compare the total cost of a taxi with several bus tickets. The extra convenience may be worth it.
Late-night arrival
→ Check the N6701 schedule first. If the wait is long or your hotel is closer to Myeongdong Station, a taxi may be more practical.
Want the least complicated trip
→ Choose 6015 or a taxi rather than optimizing only for the shortest advertised travel time.
Common Mistakes When Traveling from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong
Trying to Use T-money on the AREX Express
T-money works on the AREX All-Stop Train, but not as payment for boarding the AREX Express. The Express uses a separate ticket and fare system.
Getting Off at Myeongdong Station Just Because Your Hotel Says “Myeongdong”
Check the actual address first. Myeongdong is large enough that a different 6015 stop can be closer than Myeongdong Station itself.
Choosing AREX Only Because of Its Advertised Speed
The Express Train’s 43-minute figure only covers the ride to Seoul Station. Once you add the Line 4 transfer and the walk to your hotel, a slower option with fewer transfers can sometimes be just as practical door-to-door.
Assuming 6015 Runs Late Into the Night
The last airport-to-Myeongdong 6015 departures are generally around 11 p.m., with the exact time depending on the terminal and current schedule. If your flight lands late, check the live timetable before planning around this bus.
Assuming N6701 Stops at Myeongdong Station
N6701 stops at Euljiro 1-ga, not Myeongdong Station. It’s a reasonable option for hotels on the northern side of Myeongdong, but not a direct substitute for a Myeongdong Station arrival.
Ignoring the Different 6015 Boarding Rules at T1 and T2
Do not assume the boarding process is identical at both terminals. Terminal 2 requires advance ticket purchase under the current 2026 policy, while Terminal 1 follows a different first-come, first-served boarding process.
