About Korea Actually
Korea Actually is an independent English-language publication about how Korea actually works.
There is already plenty of information about Korea online. The problem is that practical details change, local context is often missing, and the same outdated explanations can be repeated from one English-language guide to another.
Our goal is to make Korean information easier to understand by checking what is actually true now, using Korean-language sources and local context whenever possible.
What “Actually” means here
Every article starts with a simple question: what would be difficult for someone outside Korea to figure out on their own?
That might mean:
- What people in Korea actually use, buy, or do — not just what is marketed internationally as “Korean”
- Why a Korean system works the way it does, rather than simply describing how to use it
- Correcting outdated or misleading information that still appears in English-language guides
- Explaining the difference between what works for a short-term visitor and what works for someone living in Korea
- Checking whether a Korean product is actually made in Korea rather than assuming it from the brand name
The aim is not to publish more Korea content. It is to make each article genuinely useful, clear, and difficult to replace with a generic answer.
How we research our articles
Research begins with the most relevant sources available in Korea, including government agencies, public institutions, transportation operators, retailers, company disclosures, and official Korean-language information.
Important claims are cross-checked where possible, especially when they involve prices, policies, popularity, local behavior, product origin, or information that can change over time.
When something cannot be confirmed confidently, we try to narrow the claim, explain the uncertainty, or leave it out rather than guess.
Korea Actually is independently edited and operated from South Korea. AI tools may assist with research organization and drafting, but articles are reviewed, fact-checked, and edited before publication.

Korea changes quickly. Transportation policies, prices, apps, regulations, and product information can all change after an article is published.
